About Virginia
Licensed Midwife, Herbalist, Breathwork Facilitator in Austin, Texas
Virginia Wittebort is a Licensed Midwife in Austin, Texas, supporting families who desire home birth midwifery care as well as postpartum support, herbal consultations, and breathwork for pregnancy and parenting transitions.
She is originally from Venezuela, in the Andes Mountains, where her early life was shaped by nature, plants, and the rhythms of the land. She remembers playing in the creek, talking to the plants, and sensing their presence.
Virginia walks the lineage of partería as the granddaughter of a partera who lived through the colonizing shift from traditional home birth to medicated hospital birth. Her grandmother became a nurse in that transition and also continued assisting home births in her community in the 1930s and 1940s.
Virginia holds a vision of a world where parents are held in reverence through childbirth or adoption and through the long unfolding of postpartum life. Her care weaves traditional practices with clinically grounded midwifery, bringing ancestral wisdom into modern life in a way that is relevant, nurturing, and culturally respectful.
Virginia holds postpartum as a longer season than the conventional six week window. She places strong emphasis on traditional postpartum care, including the importance of home based support in the early weeks. In her view, the way a person is held during the early days and weeks after birth powerfully shapes recovery, bonding, mood, sleep, nourishment, and long term wellbeing.
A central focus of her work is reproductive justice. Virginia served families at Mama Sana Vibrant Women from 2019 to 2024. In her own private practice, she offers sliding scale pricing for those experiencing financial hardship. She also accepts donations to help cover home birth care for underserved BIPOC families in Austin.
Virginia is also a Clinical Vitalist Herbalist and a Breathwork Facilitator. She completed Women’s Functional and Integrative Medicine professional training with Dr. Aviva Romm, and blends these tools in service of pregnancy, birth, postpartum recovery, and the deeper identity shift that parenthood invites.
